Medication awareness

This course is designed to provide a thorough awareness of the safe handling of medica-tions, and reflects current best practice standards

Who should attend?

Care Assistants.

What are the benefits of attending?

By the end of the programme you will:

  • Be able to define medicine.
  • Be aware of the legislation relating to medicines.
  • Understand the roles of individuals with regards to medicines.
  • Be aware of the classification of medication.
  • Be aware of side effects and adverse reactions.
  • Understand what is meant by safe practice in the administration of medication.

What does the programme cover?

  • The legislation and guidance that controls the prescribing, dispensing, administra-tion, storage and disposal of medication.
  • The process by which medicines are prescribed, dispensed and obtained by the individual and the worker’s role in this process.
  • The importance of types of medication prescribed, routes of administration and by whom the medication can be administered.
  • The importance of challenging poor practice in relation to safe medication.
  • Preparation prior to administration of medication. Recording.

How long does the course last?

This is a half day course.
